Founded in the autumn of 2015 the Helsinki Dance Theatre brings their new pieces to the Music centre Black box- theatre on 24.4.2016. The pieces are flowing contemporary dance with balletic influences and athletic energy.
Helsinki Dance Theatre founder/artistic director Val Rey Suarez is a Mexican/American contemporary dance artist, choreographer and teacher. He was the Director for Extended Dance Theater, in New York City and Stockholm, Sweden. Val has also served as associate director for The Amsterdam Dance Company and Copenhagens’ International Summer Dance Festival. He has been on faculty with Steps on Broadway and Peridance in New York City, Danshögskolan and Balettakademien in Stockholm, The Amsterdam Theater Academy and a number of dance academies and workshops all over the world, such as: Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and Denmark. Val calls his own dance style "extended dance", and it is based largely on ballet technique, combining the energy of jazz and natural flowing movement of contemporary dance.
